Working on Stance: 88 Jetta

First time ever, I want to do a progressive coverage on a used car. Not the original owner, but the second or third or whatever.

I was browsing through the WFC forums like usual and came acros this thread by Sean Curry, aka The Skipper.
He bought a used 88 jetta. 18. 8v engine, 5 speed manual for... guess how much... $700. Yes, you read it right, $700. If I was looking for a car, I would definitely buy it as long as it works.
Sean thought of it as the same way as I did. The cosmetic condition really didn't matter. As long as it runs, you can't complain for $700.

Here's what the car came with and some modifications done by Sean:

it came with a 276 cam, ported and polished head using sbc chevy valves(thats how much its ported) portmatched intake and exhaust, bosal header, super rare polished tt adj cam gear, a 7lb flywheel and some uprated clutch, and a k&n drop in filter with a drilled out airbox. it came with no cat, and no bung for the o2 sensor, which was disconnected and the wires hanging. after replacing alot of little things, having a exhaust made up from the newly installed Bosal hi flow cat back, to a bosal muffler with twin dtm style tips, we hooked up the o2 sensor and got the idle to drop from 1500, down to about 900, nice and lumpy styles thanks to that cam.

This is after a 16v lip and smoked ecode headlights was added. Also, a H&R cup kit which gave a 2 1/2" drop total.

The next story, which happend during Feburary:

so in february, i found the wheels i really wanted, they were borbet type a reps in a 16x9 et 20 rear and 16x7.5 et 15 front, the reason i wanted the reps is beacause they came with the centers pc'd black instead of the very bland looking silver from borbet, which also really makes the machined lip pop. so i found a kid whos dad bougth him the staggered set for his mkI, but the rears wouldnt fit, so i soon had rears, and was in search of the fronts. thats when they stopped making them in that color scheme, so i resigned my self to finding another used set, after about 2 weeks of no luck. i was just gonna buy the silver ones and have all 4 pc'd bronze with a polished lip, but then they shut down shipping, and no one had any in stock

so i finally got the fronts from the same kid i got the rears from cause he couldnt find any either. none of them had been mounted before, so i had a new set of wheels for 100 less than form the factory. no pics of that, but then came coil time!!! i ordered a set of fk streetlines, and when we went to put them on, we found that the rear pass strut from the cup kit had been put in with the bushing upside down (i used to work at les schwab so they hooked it up for cheap, fuck hookups..). so after about 3 hours, we got em out and the coils in. so i rode em like this while they settled. runnin 1.7 deg of neg camber in the front, rear isnt adjustable without shims, so thats about .5 deg neg of natural camber.

I'm starting to like this even more!!!

Finally, here is how Sean's car sits today. The final update by Sean:

and heres how it sits now, over 5 inches lower that when i got it, about 1.25" of the ground in the front, i wanna bring it down.25" in the front and .25 in the back to really give it perfect fitment, and maybe som camber bolts for the front and plates for the rear. the sub frame is about 1.5 off the ground, the tie rods are hitting the frame, and my cv is trying to notch the frame for me(a notch is next on the list).

Amazing fitment and progress. This is how it's suppose to come out when someone works on being stanced. Gotta give massive props to Sean to start out with a used classic car and making it totally sexy.

350Z on DPE's

I loved 350Z's before I was into the hellaflush scene.
Overall style, performance...daym!

Now after checking out Milt's ride, I really fell in love with Z's even more.
Today's featured Z is one of those cars that I gaurantee you guys will fall in love with within seconds.

It's pretty darn hard to color match wheels for a blue car. Even when expensive wheels are slapped on and the colors don't match, the look of the car dies out. Mando chose the perfect color and wheels to match the sexiness of his blue Z.



Can he go lower? I think he can :D

One heck of a mean looking car. Stock Z's are still good looking cars. Don't get me wrong, they do come in stock height and might look weird, but the overall look of the car is slick. But once it's on coilovers and slammed to the ground.....

This s2k belongs to Brandon and he kept it very simple and clean.

Don't be thinking simple as cheap because those words have different meanings.

I love stanced BMW's.
Who doesn't?
What makes it better are classic ones that are stanced.

BMW e36 328i, owned by Marc Marquez, can't look any better than this.
A friend of Bryan Munoz, Marc worked on this car for about 5 months
and completed the project of being stanced.



I'm pretty sure you guys haven't seen an E36 rolling on AC Schnitzer Type 1.
He bought these wheels from a guy in UK and took weeks until he got them in his hands.
You are looking at a very low but perfectly stanced car.

Overall stance is nearly perfect. From all the cars that attended the ED Open House, Marc's ride was probably the best stanced car.

I remember when I went to Island Motorsport's Meet and Greet and saw this BMW with stock wheels, but in green.
Of course it caught some attention because of the wheels, but what made it better was the stance.

Here is a 1996 BMW 318ti owned by Bryan Munoz.

Many people who are into the stance scene like to stay original.
In Bryan's case, he's saving up some money to get new rims and I don't have
any clue what they will be, and until then, Bryan decided to stance out his car in OEM style.
How is it possible? Spacers!



I gotta give props to Bryan for making things work out with OEM products.



Currently sitting on Rokkor Coilovers, his stance is right on. I know he can go lower, but because of the tire size, he is staying at the height you guys are looking at. Still VERY low and he drives like this everyday.

A lot of events during this month, and I think today's event was probably the last big event for August. For those that do not know Extreme Dimensions (ED), these guys are known for their body kits. They also sell other products as well, but started the business through kits. Their popularity in the import scene is pretty high, which is why most of their project cars were featured on Super Street and various import magazines.

If you go to an event and see all these other companies coming to support, then you get an idea of how well they are known. Check out their event flyer and see how many companies were sponsoring ED. Pretty darn amazing.

The weather was pretty darn gloomy in the morning so the shots weren't as good as I expected



Here's Garm's car that I introduced to you guys in the past. Sick like always. If you don't remember, those are custom made Work Meisters.



Hotchkis was there. Thought that strut brace was a katana.



I parked right next to this Z and this was sick. Didn't like the overall finish of the wheels, but the wheels itself was sick as fff. Volk TE37's concaved. The wheels definitely makes this car stand out.



Out of all the Genesis coupes that were there, this one was the best looking IMO. I think the owner of this car is a member of Canibeat because he had all the Canibeat stickers as a display on his window.



Pretty clean Bimmer. Think those rims are Linea Corpse.



Baller status.



Very unique trunk. It makes the overall look of the car VERY clean.



and...a Corvette.



Copper on DPE's. dammit..all these reflections coming out when I even have the filters on...crap..my bad guys.



XXR's on an Integra. Clean and Stanced.

Seen this car everywhere. He was even at Vegas. Well...Team Hybrid is almost at every show so it's not a suprise for me anymore when I see their cars.
I love these fully polished Volk ce28n's.









Couple of other Team Hybrid cars. I loved the rear look of the Accord. Pure sexiness.



LOVE THIS CAR! The color and wheel color combo are fantastic. Another Volk te37's. They are played out but still one of the sexiest wheels out there.
